Information for International applicants

  1. two Advanced Level passes at Grade C or better in English and Maltese and
  2. three Intermediate Level passes, one of which at Grade C or better, in subjects chosen as follows: one subject from Group 2, one subject from Group 3, and another subject (except English and Maltese) or
  3. a degree at MQF level 6 in any area of study awarded by the University of Malta or any other higher education institution recognised by Senate, and a pass at Grade C or better at Advanced level or equivalent in Maltese, provided that if the degree is in Maltese a pass at Grade C or better at Advanced Level or equivalent in English is also required.

Applicants considered as "Adult Learners" (mature applicants) in terms of paragraph (c) of regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations shall also be in possession of a pass at Grade C or better at Advanced Level in English and in Maltese or equivalent. Such applicants shall also be required to submit with their application a letter written in English giving their motivation for applying for the course together with a copy of their Curriculum Vitae (C.V.).

The closing date for receipt of applications from applicants in terms of the 'maturity (adult learners) clause' is 31 August 2023 at 2pm.

The undergraduate course leading to the Higher Diploma of Legal Procurator is tailor-made to prepare you for the profession as a prospective Legal Procurator. The course is offered on a full-time basis over two years, during which you learn the substantive and procedural laws that you will practice once you graduate. As a procurator, you will be tasked with the role of representing a third-party organisation. To achieve this skill set, the course provides you with the professional and required knowledge related to the profession, ranging from the civil law of property/ family/ Contract and Legal Research Methodology, to the basic notions of European union law and advanced civil procedure. In your final year, you will demonstrate your knowledge by carrying out a long essay component.

Communication and Academic Skills Programme

The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Higher Diploma of Legal Procurator - H.Dip. L.P. - under the auspices of the Faculty of Laws.

By the end of the course, you will:

  • Have developed a knowledge of the laws as detailed in the Programme of Study relevant to the profession of legal procurator.
  • Be able to discusses substantive law pertinent to the profession of legal procurator intellectual development.
  • Critically appraise substantive and procedural law relevant to the profession of legal procurator.
  • Be able to write up and discuss case law relevant to the fields of law relevant to the profession of a legal procurator.
  • Possess critical skills and interpretation skills through your understanding of the law pertinent to the profession of a legal procurator.
  • Be able to apply the law following a good grounding in the principles of substantive and procedural law.
